Fighting Techniques

A catalog of all of the techniques used by Tenshinhan. Hover over the images to see the animation of the respective technique (or touch the image on a mobile device). I used Daizenshuu 7 Guide Book translations as a basis for some of the information present here. Tenshinhan has impressively introduced 11 of his 16 fighting techniques to the Dragon Ball world (I've shown all techniques introduced to Dragon Ball by Tenshinhan with a green tab). Bukujutsu (flight), Taiyoken (Solar Flare), and the standard Ki blast were all introduced by him. The (Shin) Kikoho is also probably the strongest technique, using one's own ki, in the entire series.

Bukujutsu
English Name: Flight
Technique Type: Ki manipulation
First Introduced (User): DB Chapter 119 (Tenshinhan and Chaozu)
Tenshinhan's First Use: DB Chapter 119, DB: Episode 89

One of the most common techniques amongst most characters in Dragon Ball. Bukujutsu allows the use to fly through the use of ki manipulation. It is a technique originally taught by Tsurusennin of the Crane School. Most characters learned it on their own. Tenshinhan and Chaozu are seen using it first in during the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai.
Dodonpa
English Name: Dodon Ray
Technique Type: Ki manipulation
First Introduced (User): DB Chapter 86 (Taopaipai)
Tenshinhan's First Use: DB Chapter 128, DB: Episode 97

A Ki blast created by Tsurusennin of the Crane School. Ki is concentrated into the tip of the finger and fired precisely in a thin, concentrated beam. The technique was intended to precisely target an opponent's vitals. Tenshinhan has only used this technique a few times. Perhaps he stopped using it because it was Taopaipai's signature move.
Haikyuken (Volleyball Fist)
English Name: Volleyball Attack
Technique Type: Physical martial arts
First Introduced (User): DB Chapter 129 (Tenshinhan)
Tenshinhan's First Use: DB Chapter 129, DB: Episode 98

This technique was intended as a joke. Tenshinhan acts quite flamboyant when executing this move (completely contrary to his normal serious demeanor). The attack mimics the sport of Volleyball. With the opponent falling in the air, the user dives and punches the opponent back up. On the opponents' way down, the user "sets" them back into the air with both hands. Finally the user follows the opponent in the air to "spike" them down into the ground.
Kamehameha
English Name: Kamehameha
Technique Type: Ki manipulation
First Introduced (User): DB Chapter 14 (Kamesennin)
Tenshinhan's First Use: DB Chapter 124, DB: Episode 94

This is the Turtle School's signature Ki blast created by Kamesennin. It's a simple Ki blast formed by concentrating ki bewtween both hands and firing. Seeing it once, Tenshinhan was able to copy the technique vs. Jackie Chun at the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai.
Kamehameha Hanekaeshi (Deflection)
English Name: Kamehameha Deflect
Technique Type: Ki manipulation
First Introduced (User): DB Chapter 118 (Tenshinhan)
Tenshinhan's First Use: DB Chapter 118, DB: Episode 88

A technique first used by Tenshinhan, where he uses a Kiai to send a Kamehameha back to the opponent. Tenshinhan uses this technique to everyone's surprise against Yamucha at the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai match.
Kiai Keshi (Extinguisher)
English Name: ?
Technique Type: Ki manipulation
First Introduced (User): DB Chapter 170 (Tenshinhan)
Tenshinhan's First Use: DB Chapter 170, DB: Episode 136

This particular type of Kiai was first used by Tenshinhan during his battle with Cyborg Taopaipai at the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai. He was able to completely extinguish Taopaipai's Super Dodonpa with a shouting Kiai. A Kiai is basically a shockwave of ki. There are many different types of Kiai used throughout Dragon Ball.
Kikoha (Ki Blast)
English Name: Energy Blast
Technique Type: Ki manipulation
First Introduced (User): DB Chapter 176 (Tenshinhan)
Tenshinhan's First Use: DB Chapter 176, DB: Episode 139

Kikoha is just a standard Ki blast. Almost all the main fighting characters in DB can fire Ki blasts. Techniques such as the Kamehameha and Kikoho are also considered Kikoha. Tenshinhan is surprisingly the first to just use a standard Ki blast during his fight with Goku at the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai. Kikoha (Ki blasts) are formed by using the energy in one's body and manipulating it to the outside of the body, firing it off as a blast, wave, beam, etc.
Kikoho
English Name: Tri-Beam
Technique Type: Ki manipulation
First Introduced (User): DB Chapter 133 (Tenshinhan)
Tenshinhan's First Use: DB Chapter 133, DB: Episode 100

This is the secret finishing move of the Crane School. It is formed by concentrating a Kiai into a point. The user then fires it off in a single burst. The energy that is shot doesn't have a visible shape but the destruction it leaves behind shows its form. It uses so much of the user's ki, it can cause them to die if they aren't careful. Tenshinhan uses this first against Goku at the 22nd Tenkaichi Budoaki, destroying the entire ring.
Kosengan (Beam Eyes)
English Name: Mystery Ray
Technique Type: Ability
First Introduced (User): DB Chapter 149 (Piccolo Daimao)
Tenshinhan's First Use: DB Chapter 178, DB: Episode 141

An attack used by martial artists with an innate ability, the Kosengan is a beam of energy emitted from the user's eye(s). Tenshinhan uses the Kosengan against Goku in the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai. Interestingly, it seems only Piccolo Daimao, Piccolo, Tenshinhan, and Freeza have used this technique. Perhaps Tenshinhan's alien ancestory is what gives him such an ability (which would make sense as its shot only from his 3rd eye; his distinct alien-trait).
Machine Gun Tsuki (Thrust)
English Name: Machine Gun Punch
Technique Type: Physical martial arts
First Introduced (User): DB Chapter 128 (Tenshinhan)
Tenshinhan's First Use: DB Chapter 128, DB: Episode 97

Only used by Tenshinhan, he unleashes a barrage of jabs in extremely quick succession. It gets its name from its likeness to that of a barrage of machine gun bullets. Goku was not able to defend himself against this attack at the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai.
Mafuba
English Name: Evil Containment Wave
Technique Type: Special
First Introduced (User): DB Chapter 135 (Kamesennin)
Tenshinhan's First Use: DB Chapter 151, DB: Episode 111

Kamesennin's master, Mutaito, created this special technique to seal away Piccolo Daimao. Using all of the user's energy, a vortex is created with the user's hands, which spirals its target around within it. The user then concentrates the target into a container such as a denshi jar. The jar can be close to seal away the target. Kamesennin died using this against Piccolo Daimao. Tenshinhan was able to learn it by witnessing this. Tenshinhan was able to survive using it, perhaps, because he was not able to complete the technique against Drum.
Shin Kikoho
English Name: Neo Tri-Beam
Technique Type: Ki manipulation
First Introduced (User): DBZ Chapter 179 (Tenshinhan)
Tenshinhan's First Use: DBZ Chapter 179, DBZ: Episode 152

This is Tenshinhan's improved version of the Kikoho developed through intense training. Tenshinhan can now fire multiple concentrated Kiai with extreme force. Like the standard Kikoho, the drawback is the rapid decline in the user's ki. Tenshinhan nearly died using the technique against 2nd form Cell.
Shishinnoken
English Name: Multi-Form Technique
Technique Type: Bunshin (Cloning)
First Introduced (User): DB Chapter 178 (Tenshinhan)
Tenshinhan's First Use: DB Chapter 178, DB: Episode 141

Due to Tenshinhan's ancestory with the Three-Eyed People, he is able to split his body into 4 separate forms. This gives a serious tactical advantage at the cost of splitting the power of the user amongst all 4 clones. Tenshinhan used this against Goku at the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai for the first time. He split himself into 2 clones to fight Jheese and Butta. The technique was brought back in the Dragon Ball Super anime during the Tournament of Power.
Shiyoken
English Name: Four Witches Technique
Technique Type: Special
First Introduced (User): DB Chapter 132 (Tenshinhan)
Tenshinhan's First Use: DB Chapter 132, DB: Episode 99

Tenshinhan is the only user of this technique. Because of his ancestory with the Three-Eyed People, he is able to temporarily create 2 additional arms that protrude from his back. Tenshinhan uses the technique against Goku at the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai. He also briefly uses this in Dragon Ball Super during the fight with a possessed Kamesennin.
Taiyoken
English Name: Solar Flare
Technique Type: Ki manipulation
First Introduced (User): DB Chapter 124 (Tenshinhan)
Tenshinhan's First Use: DB Chapter 124, DB: Episode 94

Another technique of the Crane School, the user gathers Ki within the upperbody. Then the ki is converted to light energy emanating from the user's face (surrounded by inward facing palms). Tenshinhan first used this technique against Jackie Chun at the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai. This became a very often used technique by other characters since its introduction.
Zanzoken
English Name: Afterimage Technique
Technique Type: Physical martial art
First Introduced (User): DB Chapter 43 (Jackie Chun)
Tenshinhan's First Use: DB Chapter 130, DB: Episode 98

This is a common technique among the advanced martial artist within Dragon Ball. It's simply a technique of moving so fast, an after image of the user is created. The user is also moving so fast they can't be seen. Perhaps the user stays a breif moment longer in one position to create the after image. This is often used to confuse an opponent and hide the user's true location.

Additional Abilities: Tenshinhan has other abilities which I wouldn't exactly classify as "Fighting Techniques". For instance, he can communicate telepathically with Chaozu. Tenshinhan demonstrates telekinesis during the beginning of DBZ by halting the flow of a waterfall (in the anime only). Tenshinhan also has the ability to see and fully understand a fighting technique after only seeing it once. However, he doesn't use this after learning the techniques; Kamehameha and Mafuba. It also seems like in general, Tenshinhan has a keener sense of sight and ki than most in Dragon Ball. His third eye obviously assists in sight. There are a few specific instances of Tenshinhan's heightened senses: Piccolo picked Tenshinhan to hunt Cell with him during the Android-Cell Arc. Tenshinhan noticed a slight disturbance in ki first (as Cell was absorbing humans somewhere on Earth). During the Tournament of Power (Dragon Ball Super anime) Tenshinhan was the first to notice additional subtle ki from Universe 4's nearly invisible warriors.
